Volunteers for the Lighthouse Museum Docent program get the unique privilege of bringing history to life while volunteering to stay at and take care of the Pottawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island, Wisconsin. As part of this program, volunteers stay for a week at a time in the Lighthouse and give tours 7 days a week from 10 am to 4 pm each day. This program operates from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day each year. With no electricity and no indoor plumbing, this is quite the volunteer experience. Interested volunteers are encouraged to read the Guidebook for Docent Tours, which outlines further details of this program. All volunteer applications for this program are due by December 31 each year for the following year.

If you like to spend time in the outdoors, interact with and help other outdoor enthusiasts, and you care about protecting our natural resources, then a camp host volunteer position is for you! Along with helping to take care of the park, camp hosts greet daily visitors and campers, monitor the camp ground, sell merchandise & firewood, and much more on Rock Island, Wisconsin. Interested volunteers are encouraged to read the Camp Host Guidebook, which outlines further details of this program. All volunteer applications for this program are due by December 31 each year for the following year.

Each Spring the Friends of Rock Island hosts a clean up event that helps get the park ready for the season, including but not limited to opening and cleaning the Lighthouse, Boathouse and campground.

Each Fall the Friends of Rock Island hosts a shutdown event that helps close up the park for the season, including but not limited to shutting down and closing up the Lighthouse, Boathouse and campground.

FORI Family Fun Day Fundraiser is a great opportunity to meet with other FORI members and get others excited about joining FORI, exploring Rock Island, and preserving the Island for years to come!
